Prepaid SIM cards has really a wide variety.
When you stay in Japan just for a short period and choose a SIM card accordingly, it practically no big differences if you purchase whichever.
However, if you stay in Japan for over 14 days, when you choose a SIM card, you are better off to confirm the availability of data top-up and extending valid period beforehand.

When you purchase SIM cards at airports, it will be pricey than purchasing it through online or at electronics retail stores because they include exclusive costs such as airport fee. Furthermore, prepaid SIM cards might be sold out due to a sudden increase of the demand especially during high seasons.

Therefore, we highly recommend that you pre-order it online before your arrival to Japan to secure your internet connection.
